So today it starts – living on £1 per day for food and drink, hopefully to raise money and awareness for the 1.4 billion people in the world who have to live like this every day. Here’s what I’ve got to survive on…

value pasta twirls 9p
value noodles 2 x 10p
packet value pitta bread 19p
red lentils 79p
bag carrots (reduced) 25p
2 tomatoes 20p
garlic 25p
chillies 7p
value tin toms 31p
value tin kidney beans 18p
2 small onions 27p
2 peaches (reduced) 30p
2 lemons (reduced) 29p
half cabbage 34p
2 value eggs 32p
value chicken stock cubes 29p
value tin sardines 34p

Leaving a whopping 32p to cover a couple of splashes of oil, a sprinkle of salt and pepper and a pinch of cumin or cayenne from my cupboard. I reckon that’s about fair…

I’ve grown my own herbs, so I’m taking the liberty of calling those ‘free’.

Drinks – no tea, coffee, squash or beer, it’s going to be plain water. Obviously we don’t have a handy well in NE6 so that will be tap water. Strictly speaking, that’s not free, but as my water rates (£300+ per annum) amount to about £1/day alone, we’re going to have to overlook that!

Please have a look at the website to learn more about Living Below the Line, and if you could sponsor me, that would be brilliant
